Luxor, Aswan and Abu Simbel: Planning the Route South
The practical side of the historic route — which airports serve it, how the drives connect, and where airport assistance saves the most time.
The airports on the route
Two airports carry almost all of this itinerary, with a third stop reached by road.
- Luxor International (LXR) — the usual entry point for the temples and the Valley of the Kings.
- Aswan International (ASW) — the southern base, and the departure point for Abu Simbel.
- Abu Simbel — reached from Aswan; the drive is long and traditionally starts very early.
Why timing decides the day
Upper Egypt runs on early mornings. Site visits and the Abu Simbel drive are planned before the heat, and domestic flights between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan are often early too. That means airport movements at hours when queues, luggage and finding the driver are least welcome — and it is the reason most of our Upper Egypt requests combine assistance at the airport with a confirmed car waiting outside.

A representative meets you inside the terminal, stays with you through the formalities and baggage, and walks you to the driver — on arrival, on departure, or on both legs of a domestic hop. Meet & assist reference prices are USD 40 Standard, USD 55 Premium and USD 225 VIP, per traveller and per airport movement.
Transfers and long drives
Egyptian transfers are priced per vehicle and range from EGP 800 for short city runs to EGP 8,500 for the longest intercity routes. The Aswan to Abu Simbel drive belongs to the long end of that range; local runs in Luxor and Aswan to the lower end. Every figure is indicative until confirmed in writing for your dates.
