Terminals, visas, baggage and the drive into the city — what to expect at Cairo International and how to avoid the usual friction.
Which terminal are you landing in?
Cairo International operates several passenger terminals, and they are not next door to each other — moving between them means a road transfer, not a walk. EgyptAir and its partners largely use Terminal 3, while other carriers are spread across Terminals 1 and 2. Your ticket or airline app gives the terminal; check it before arranging a pickup, because a driver at the wrong terminal costs you more time than the immigration queue.
Visa, passport control and baggage
Many visitors to Egypt can obtain a visa on arrival at the airport, and others apply online or at an embassy in advance; the correct route depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit, so confirm it before you fly rather than at the counter. After passport control comes baggage reclaim and customs. None of this is difficult — it is simply a sequence of desks, and the queues are longest when several flights land close together.
